Used EV battery warranty checker

Last updated · 35 models · manufacturer terms with sources

Pick the model, enter when the car was first registered and its mileage. We show how much of the published battery warranty is likely left and, if you have a battery health reading, how far it is from the claim threshold.

A guide, not a confirmation. Based on the manufacturers' published UK terms (Germany for NIO). Use, service history and how the car was sold can change the cover – always confirm with the manufacturer or a franchised dealer using the VIN.

FAQ

How long is a used EV battery warranty?

For most of the 35 models we cover, the UK battery warranty runs 8 years from first registration with a mileage cap of around 100,000 miles, and applies if capacity falls below 70%. Exceptions include older Nissan Leafs (5 years / 60,000 miles, measured in capacity bars), Kia cars registered before 2024 (7 years), BYD (250,000 km), smart (125,000 miles) and Dacia Spring (75%).

Does the battery warranty transfer to a second owner?

Usually the cover belongs to the car, but check the wording: Vauxhall describes its battery warranty as transferable, while Tesla says it transfers when ownership is transferred through Tesla. Read the full terms on the model page and confirm with the manufacturer using the VIN.

Is normal battery degradation covered?

No. Battery warranties cover capacity falling below a set threshold (usually 70%) or defects within the time and mileage limits. Gradual loss above that threshold is treated as normal ageing.

Is my input stored?

No. The checker runs in your browser; nothing you enter is sent to us or stored.

Model averages can't tell you about the car in front of you. An independent battery test (typically a short OBD plug-in test, some remote) gives an SoH figure and often a certificate you can use when negotiating.
