How to check a used Renault Megane E-Tech battery: size, warranty and test results (UK)
Published · Last updated · based on 8 sourced Megane E-Tech data points and 18 sources
The Megane E-Tech Electric has been on sale in the UK since 2022, and early cars are now arriving on the used market. No large battery study covers it yet, so this guide brings together what can be checked: which battery the car has, the recall position, Renault's 8-year battery warranty, the battery check in every Renault service and the 8 single-car results we have found.
All figures with method and date: used Megane E-Tech battery data. Going to a viewing? Make a printable list of questions for the seller.
1. Identify the battery
| Version | Usable battery | Nominal | Cells / chemistry | Market and dates (EV Database) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Megane E-Tech EV60 (130 or 220 hp) | 60 kWh | 65 kWh | 288 pouch cells (96s3p), NMC | UK, November 2022 onwards (same pack in the 2025 listing) | EV Database |
| Megane E-Tech EV40 | 40 kWh | 43.3 kWh | 96s2p, NMC | Europe only, not sold new in the UK | EV Database |
| Megane E-Tech 67 kWh | 67 kWh | 68.5 kWh | 232 cells (116s2p), LFP | from October 2026 | EV Database |
- Almost every used Megane E-Tech in the UK has the EV60 battery. An imported car could have the EV40, which has about a third less usable energy, so check the specification and V5C.
- The 67 kWh LFP battery is new for late 2026, so we have no results for it. Don't compare its readings with those from the NMC cars.
2. Check for recalls
DVSA's recall file, downloaded 2026-10-31, lists no high-voltage battery recall for the Megane E-Tech (DVSA). It does list R/2025/377 (9 September 2025, Renault reference OEY9): on 23 Meganes built 12 April 2024 – 7 May 2025, the parking-brake actuator in the electric drive's reduction gearbox may not hold the car in "P", and the actuator is replaced. The same recall covers some Scenic, Captur, Austral and other models.
Run the free GOV.UK recall check on the registration (GOV.UK), and ask for proof that any open recall was done.
3. Check the battery warranty
Renault UK: the traction battery is covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first (unlimited mileage for the first 2 years), against capacity falling below 70%. The electric powertrain has a separate 4-year / 100,000-mile warranty for the Megane E-Tech. (Renault UK, checked 2026-11-02)
- Count the 8 years from the first registration date on the V5C. The first UK cars (late 2022) are covered until late 2030 if they stay under 100,000 miles.
- Ask for the Renault service history and check any warranty questions with a Renault dealer using the VIN.
- Our battery warranty checker works out the time and mileage left from the registration date.
4. Get a battery reading you can trust
- Ask for the last Renault service result. Renault UK's 2026 fixed-price dealer guide lists a "Traction Battery State of Health Check" in every yearly scheduled service for its EVs, and a one-hour diagnostic costs up to £130 in the first 36 months (Renault UK). That is the car's own figure. One French owner thinks a winter service lowered his reading (lesmdc.net).
- On the 4 UK dealer AVILOO certificates we found, the car's own battery figure (BMS) was lower than AVILOO's independent result on 3 of them, by up to 1.4 points, and equal to or above it on the remaining one. The two figures were close on every certificate, but it's a very small sample.
- An AVILOO battery test (AVILOO GmbH) measures the battery independently. UK options and prices are on our UK battery test comparison, and our certificate guide explains how to read the result.
5. What is a normal result?
- All 4 UK certificates were in the range 95.9%–96.7%, at 22,127–64,488 km. A car with similar mileage that reads well below that range deserves an independent test before you buy.
- Owners report about 95–97% after 2–3 years, and the highest mileage we have is 95.0% at 100,000 km (≈62,137 mi, Forums Automobile Propre, method not stated).
- There is no AVILOO median for the Megane E-Tech yet. For other family hatchbacks of similar size, AVILOO's median at 100,000 km is 92.8% for the Volkswagen ID.3, 93.0% for the Cupra Born (AVILOO GmbH).
- As a rule of thumb for all EVs, ADAC expects at least 92% at 50,000 km, 88% at 100,000 km, 84% at 150,000 km, 80% at 200,000 km (ADAC).
- Put the Megane's results next to its rivals on the battery degradation chart, or get a quick estimate with the battery health estimator.

6. Battery replacement cost
We have not found a verifiable, dated UK price for a new Megane E-Tech battery, so we don't quote one. Inside 8 years and 100,000 miles, a battery that falls below 70% capacity is covered by Renault's warranty (Renault UK). General UK figures are in our EV battery replacement cost guide.

Model averages can't tell you about the car in front of you. An independent battery test (typically a short OBD plug-in test, some remote) gives an SoH figure and often a certificate you can use when negotiating.
- AVILOO – Independent OBD-based battery test (FLASH / Premium) with certificate; available via partners in the UK and EU.
- Generational – UK OBD plug-in test with certificate (SoH, range, remaining warranty, cell balance); sold through dealers and independent mobile testers.
- Moba – Postal OBD kit: you run the test yourself and post the box back for a digital battery certificate (Europe – check vehicle support and delivery country).

FAQ
What is the Renault Megane E-Tech battery warranty in the UK?
Renault UK covers the traction battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, with unlimited mileage in the first 2 years, if its capacity falls below 70%. The rest of the electric powertrain has a separate 4-year / 100,000-mile warranty on the Megane E-Tech.
What size battery does a used Megane E-Tech have?
UK cars have the EV60 battery: 60 kWh usable (65 kWh nominal), NMC chemistry, according to EV Database. The smaller EV40 (40 kWh usable) was sold in Europe only, and from October 2026 Renault offers a new 67 kWh LFP battery.
How much does a Megane E-Tech battery degrade?
There is no large study for the Megane E-Tech yet. The 4 UK dealer AVILOO certificates we found, at 22,127–64,488 km, all showed 95.9%–96.7%, and owners in Germany, Switzerland and France report about 95–97% after 2–3 years, including one car at 100,000 km. These are single cars, not an average.
Are there Megane E-Tech battery recalls in the UK?
DVSA's recall file (downloaded 31 October 2026) lists no high-voltage battery recall for the Megane E-Tech. It does list R/2025/377, a parking-brake actuator recall for 23 Meganes built April 2024 – May 2025. Run the free GOV.UK recall check on the registration.
Does a Renault service check the battery?
Renault UK's 2026 fixed-price dealer guide lists a "Traction Battery State of Health Check" in every yearly scheduled service for its electric cars. Ask the seller for the result from the latest service, but remember it is the car's own figure, not an independent test.
