How to check a used Mercedes EQB battery: size, warranty, recalls and health (UK)
Published · Last updated · based on 35 sourced EQB data points and 52 sources
The EQB is the EQA's seven-seat-capable sister (series 243), sold in the UK from 2022 to early 2026 with either a 66.5 or 70.5 kWh battery. On the 35 UK dealer AVILOO certificates we found, results ranged from 95.2%–100.0%. The bigger questions on a used EQB are the battery fire-risk recall (and the German 250+ battery replacement), how far to trust the car's own SoH figure, and the 8-year warranty. This guide covers each check.

1. Identify the battery: 66.5 or 70.5 kWh
| Version | Usable battery | Nominal | Cells | Available to order (EV Database, UK) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| EQB 300 4MATIC (2022-23) | 66.5 kWh | 69.7 kWh | 300 cells (100s3p) | February 2022 – November 2023 | EV Database |
| EQB 350 4MATIC (2022-23) | 66.5 kWh | 69.7 kWh | 300 cells (100s3p) | February 2022 – November 2023 | EV Database |
| EQB 250+ | 70.5 kWh | 73.9 kWh | not listed | December 2023 – January 2026 | EV Database |
| EQB 300 4MATIC (2024-26) | 66.5 kWh | 69.7 kWh | 300 cells (100s3p) | July 2024 – January 2026 | EV Database |
| EQB 350 4MATIC (2023-26) | 66.5 kWh | 69.7 kWh | 300 cells (100s3p) | December 2023 – January 2026 | EV Database |
EV Database UK listings, checked 2026-11-04. EV Database lists no successor, so the EQB is now a used-only buy in the UK. Earlier EQB 250 and EQB 250+ (2022-23) listings show no UK availability.
- The badge usually tells you the pack: a 250+ has the 70.5 kWh battery; the 300 and 350 4MATIC have the 66.5 kWh battery. UK dealer certificates usually print the usable capacity ("66,5kWh" or "70,5 kWh"), not the version name.
- The 250+ is the version German reports link to the battery replacement recall (see below), so check it with extra care.
2. Check the battery recall
We re-downloaded DVSA's recall file on 2026-11-04 (DVSA). For the EQB it lists:
| Recall | Launched | UK cars | Built | Problem / remedy |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| R/2025/106 SRPC2500 / SRPC2522 | 17/04/2025 | 3 EQBs (campaign mainly for the EQA) | 10/09/2023 – 26/10/2023 | Fire risk from the high-voltage battery "cannot be ruled out". Remedy: battery management software update; charge to a maximum of 80% until it is done. |
| R/2024/166 | 06/05/2024 | 7,833 EQBs | 24/11/2021 – 31/01/2024 | Steering software backup function (not battery). |
| R/2023/117 | 26/04/2023 | 61 EQBs | 29/06/2022 – 02/08/2022 | Upper B-pillar and beltline trim (not battery). |
| R/2022/062 | 24/03/2022 | 17 across EQA/EQB | – | Brake caliper housing bolting (not battery). |
Outside the UK the recall went further for the 70.5 kWh (Farasis-cell) pack. Germany's KBA recall 16136R covers EQA 250+ and EQB 250+ built 20 February 2021 – 30 July 2024 (51,729 cars worldwide). The earlier software fix cut usable energy and charging performance, so Mercedes is replacing the battery as parts become available (~8 hours of workshop time). Until then owners are told not to charge above 80% and to park outdoors (electrive.com, mbpassion.de, heise online). electrive's 15 October 2026 update says broad European replacement starts in Q4 2026, with the deadline extended to 1 March 2028.
For context only (US cars): NHTSA recall 26V073 (February 2026) covers certain 2023–2024 EQB 250+ and 2022–2024 EQB 300/350 4MATIC with a free battery replacement; owners are told to park outside and charge to 80% until then (US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). That is not a UK recall.
The UK file we checked lists only the software recall for the EQB, with no UK battery replacement listed, so we can't say if or when UK cars will get new batteries. At a viewing:
- Check the VIN on Mercedes-Benz UK's recall check (Mercedes-Benz UK) and run the free GOV.UK recall check on the registration (GOV.UK).
- Ask whether the software update or a battery replacement has been done, and for the invoice or service record.
- Look at the charge limit in the car. If it is held at 80%, ask why, and allow for the reduced range in daily use.
3. Check the battery warranty
Mercedes-Benz UK: EQA/EQB (series 243) high-voltage battery covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km) from first registration, whichever comes sooner; the battery can be replaced in that period if its capacity falls below 70% of the rated capacity. (Mercedes-Benz Cars UK, checked 2026-11-04)
- Count the 8 years from the first registration date on the V5C. Even the first 2022 cars are covered until 2030 if they're under 100,000 miles.
- Ask for the Mercedes service history and any recall work above, and confirm the warranty with a Mercedes-Benz retailer using the VIN.
- Our battery warranty checker works out the time and mileage left from the registration date.
4. Get a battery reading you can trust
- Don't rely on the car's own SoH figure. On the 35 UK AVILOO certificates we found, the EQB's BMS (whole numbers) read up to 0.8 points lower than AVILOO on some cars and up to 7.3 points higher on others. 11 of 12 EQB 250+ cars showed a higher BMS figure (101–103% on nine of them), and one 66.5 kWh car showed 106% against AVILOO's 98.7% (Car360). A high reading from the car itself is not proof of a healthy battery.
- One 91,791-mile EQB (66.5 kWh) got no SoH at all: AVILOO flagged a potential safety hazard ("safety-concerning anomalies … require immediate inspection") twice, two weeks apart, while the car itself showed 95% (Car360). If an independent test flags a safety risk, don't buy until a Mercedes workshop has inspected the battery.
- An AVILOO battery test (AVILOO GmbH) measures the battery independently. UK options and prices are on our UK battery test comparison, and our certificate guide explains how to read the result.
5. Compare the result with other EQBs
- No AVILOO median is published for the EQB itself (AVILOO's 2026 report has one for the sister EQA, all packs grouped). Every figure below is a single UK car.
- The 35 UK dealer certificates (2,445–112,805 km, ≈1,519–70,094 miles) read 95.2%–100.0%: 23 cars with the 66.5 kWh pack read 95.2%–99.2%, and 12 EQB 250+ cars with the 70.5 kWh pack read 97.9%–100.0% (up to 31,913 miles). The lowest result, 95.2%, was at 55,978 miles; the highest-mileage car (70,094 miles) had 95.4%.
- For a rough peer comparison, AVILOO's median at 100,000 km is 95.0% for the Mercedes-Benz EQA, 93.7% for the Volvo XC40 Recharge, 92.4% for the Audi Q4 e-tron (AVILOO GmbH).
- A UK result clearly below about 95.2% at similar mileage is worth questioning. Get the car tested again or ask Mercedes to check it.
- As a rule of thumb for all EVs, ADAC expects at least 92% at 50,000 km, 88% at 100,000 km, 84% at 150,000 km, 80% at 200,000 km (ADAC).
- Compare the EQB with similar SUVs on the battery degradation chart, or get a quick estimate with the battery health estimator.

Model averages can't tell you about the car in front of you. An independent battery test (typically a short OBD plug-in test, some remote) gives an SoH figure and often a certificate you can use when negotiating.
- AVILOO – Independent OBD-based battery test (FLASH / Premium) with certificate; available via partners in the UK and EU.
- Generational – UK OBD plug-in test with certificate (SoH, range, remaining warranty, cell balance); sold through dealers and independent mobile testers.
- Moba – Postal OBD kit: you run the test yourself and post the box back for a digital battery certificate (Europe – check vehicle support and delivery country).

UK EQB 300 4MATIC and EQB 350 4MATIC have a 69.7 kWh nominal / 66.5 kWh usable pack (300 cells, 100s3p). The EQB 250+ has a larger 73.9 / 70.5 kWh pack. EV Database UK listings (checked 4 November 2026) cover orders from February 2022 to January 2026; the badge usually tells the packs apart.
Is there a Mercedes EQB battery recall in the UK?
Yes, one battery recall. DVSA lists R/2025/106 (April 2025): 3 EQBs built 10 September – 26 October 2023, under a campaign mainly for the EQA, where a fire risk from the high-voltage battery cannot be ruled out. The remedy is a battery management software update, and until it is done owners are told to charge to a maximum of 80%. Other EQB recalls in the file (R/2024/166, R/2023/117, R/2022/062) are not battery-related. Run the GOV.UK recall check and Mercedes-Benz UK's VIN recall check.
Is Mercedes replacing EQB batteries?
Outside the UK, yes for many 250+ cars. Germany's KBA recall 16136R covers EQA 250+ and EQB 250+ built February 2021 – July 2024 (51,729 cars worldwide) with a battery replacement; electrive reported in October 2026 that broad European replacement starts in Q4 2026. The US recall 26V073 covers certain 2023–2024 EQB 250+ and 2022–2024 EQB 300/350 4MATIC with a free battery replacement. The UK DVSA file we checked lists only the software recall, so ask Mercedes-Benz UK what applies to the VIN.
What is the Mercedes EQB battery warranty in the UK?
Mercedes-Benz UK covers the EQB (series 243) high-voltage battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles from first registration, whichever comes sooner, and can replace it if capacity falls below 70% of the rated capacity.
How much does a Mercedes EQB battery degrade?
There is no AVILOO median for the EQB itself. The 35 UK dealer AVILOO certificates we found read 95.2%–100.0% at 1,519–70,094 miles: 95.2%–99.2% on 23 cars with the 66.5 kWh pack and 97.9%–100.0% on 12 EQB 250+ cars with the 70.5 kWh pack. Every figure is a single car (n=1), not an average.
How much does an EQB battery replacement cost in the UK?
We have not found a verifiable, dated UK price for a new EQB battery, so we do not quote one. Inside 8 years and 100,000 miles a battery below 70% is covered by Mercedes-Benz UK, and recall work is free.
