How to check a used Mercedes EQA battery: the recall, warranty and battery health (UK)
Published · Last updated · based on 23 sourced EQA data points and 34 sources
The EQA's battery ages well in the data: AVILOO's median is 95.0% at 100,000 km. But many 2021–2024 cars are caught up in a battery fire-risk recall, which in the UK means a software update and an 80% charging limit until it is done. In Germany Mercedes has started replacing the 70.5 kWh battery. This guide covers how to tell which battery a car has, how to check the recall status, the 8-year warranty and how to get a battery reading you can trust.

1. Identify the battery
| Version | Usable battery | Nominal | Cells | Available to order (EV Database, UK) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| EQA 250 | 66.5 kWh | 69.7 kWh | 300 cells (100s3p) | April 2021 – June 2022 | EV Database |
| EQA 250+ | 70.5 kWh | 73.9 kWh | not listed | June 2022 – November 2023 | EV Database |
| EQA 250+ (facelift) | 70.5 kWh | 73.9 kWh | not listed | December 2023 – August 2026 | EV Database |
| EQA 300 4MATIC | 66.5 kWh | 69.7 kWh | 300 cells (100s3p) | December 2021 – November 2023, again July 2024 – August 2026 | EV Database |
| EQA 350 4MATIC | 66.5 kWh | 69.7 kWh | 300 cells (100s3p) | December 2021 – August 2026 | EV Database |
EV Database UK listings, checked 2026-11-02. EV Database lists no successor model, so the EQA is now a used-only buy in the UK.
- The badge tells you the pack: a 250+ has the 70.5 kWh battery, the 250, 300 and 350 the 66.5 kWh battery. UK dealer certificates usually state which one.
- The 250+ is the version that German reports link to the battery replacement recall (see below), so check it with extra care.
2. Check the battery recall
DVSA's recall file, downloaded 2026-10-31, lists R/2025/106 (17 April 2025, Mercedes references SRPC2500 and SRPC2522): on certain EQAs a fire risk from the high-voltage battery "cannot be ruled out". The remedy is a software update for the battery management system; until it is done, owners are told to charge to a maximum of 80%. DVSA lists 5,803 EQAs built 22 September 2021 – 30 July 2024, plus 3 EQBs (DVSA).
In Germany the recall went further. The KBA recall 16136R covers EQA 250+ and EQB 250+ cars built 20 February 2021 – 30 July 2024 with the 70.5 kWh battery (51,729 cars worldwide). The earlier software fix significantly cut usable energy and charging performance, so Mercedes is replacing the battery as parts become available, which takes about 8 hours of workshop time. Until then owners are told not to charge above 80% and to park outdoors (electrive.com, mbpassion.de). After the replacement the car is back to its original state without the software limit (heise online). electrive's update of 15 October 2026 says broad replacement in Europe starts in Q4 2026, with the recall deadline extended to 1 March 2028.
The UK file we checked lists only the software recall, with no UK battery replacement, so we can't say if or when UK cars will get new batteries. At a viewing:
- Check the VIN on Mercedes-Benz UK's recall check (Mercedes-Benz UK) and run the free GOV.UK recall check on the registration (GOV.UK).
- Ask whether the software update or a battery replacement has been done, and for the invoice or service record.
- Look at the charge limit in the car. If it is held at 80%, ask why, and allow for the reduced range in daily use.
- DVSA also lists other EQA recalls: R/2024/166 (steering software backup, 17,718 cars built 2020–2024), R/2022/062 (brake caliper bolts), R/2025/439 (front parking sensor) and R/2021/390 (owner's manual).
3. Check the battery warranty
Mercedes-Benz UK: EQA/EQB (series 243) high-voltage battery covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km); replacement if capacity falls below 70% of rated capacity. (Mercedes-Benz Cars UK, checked 2026-10-20)
- Count the 8 years from the first registration date on the V5C. Even the first 2021 cars are covered until 2029 if they're under 100,000 miles.
- Ask for the Mercedes service history and the recall work above, and check the warranty with a Mercedes-Benz retailer using the VIN.
- Our battery warranty checker works out the time and mileage left from the registration date.
4. Get a battery reading you can trust
- Owners report that third-party OBD apps can't read the EQA's battery data, so a reading usually comes from a Mercedes workshop (Mercedes EQA Forum – eqa-forum.de) or an independent test.
- On the 17 UK dealer AVILOO certificates we found, the car's own battery figure (BMS) was above 100% on 6 of them (cars at 4,727–22,981 miles), while AVILOO's independent result on the same cars was 98.0%–99.8%. On none of the 17 certificates was the car's own figure below AVILOO's result; it was up to 5 points higher. A high reading from the car itself is not proof of a healthy battery, so get an independent test.
- An AVILOO battery test (AVILOO GmbH) measures the battery independently. UK options and prices are on our UK battery test comparison, and our certificate guide explains how to read the result.
5. Compare the result with other EQAs
- 50,000 km (≈31,069 mi): median 96.6%, central 99% of cars 91.3%–98.9%
- 100,000 km (≈62,137 mi): median 95.0%, central 99% of cars 89.2%–97.8%
- 150,000 km (≈93,206 mi): median 94.0%, central 99% of cars 87.4%–97.1%
AVILOO 2026 data, 18,953 EQA tests, all battery versions grouped (AVILOO GmbH).
- A result well below the median at similar mileage is worth questioning, and one near or below the bottom of the range should be checked with an independent test before you buy.
- On the UK certificates, the 70.5 kWh cars (7,607–75,034 km) read 96.0%–99.8% and the 66.5 kWh cars (36,984–73,536 km) read 95.6%–98.0%.
- For comparison, AVILOO's median at 100,000 km is 92.5% for the Volkswagen ID.4, 93.7% for the Volvo XC40 Recharge, 92.4% for the Audi Q4 e-tron.
- As a rule of thumb for all EVs, ADAC expects at least 92% at 50,000 km, 88% at 100,000 km, 84% at 150,000 km, 80% at 200,000 km (ADAC).
- Compare the EQA with similar SUVs on the battery degradation chart, or get a quick estimate with the battery health estimator.

6. Battery replacement cost
We have not found a verifiable, dated UK price for a new EQA battery, so we don't quote one. Inside 8 years and 100,000 miles a battery that falls below 70% is covered by Mercedes-Benz UK (Mercedes-Benz Cars UK), and recall work is free. General UK figures are in our EV battery replacement cost guide.

Model averages can't tell you about the car in front of you. An independent battery test (typically a short OBD plug-in test, some remote) gives an SoH figure and often a certificate you can use when negotiating.
- AVILOO – Independent OBD-based battery test (FLASH / Premium) with certificate; available via partners in the UK and EU.
- Generational – UK OBD plug-in test with certificate (SoH, range, remaining warranty, cell balance); sold through dealers and independent mobile testers.
- Moba – Postal OBD kit: you run the test yourself and post the box back for a digital battery certificate (Europe – check vehicle support and delivery country).

FAQ
Is there a Mercedes EQA battery recall in the UK?
Yes. DVSA lists R/2025/106 (April 2025): on 5,803 EQA built 22 September 2021 – 30 July 2024 a fire risk from the high-voltage battery cannot be ruled out. The remedy is a battery management software update, and until it is done owners are told to charge to a maximum of 80%. Check the VIN with Mercedes-Benz UK and run the GOV.UK recall check.
Is Mercedes replacing EQA batteries?
In Germany, yes. Under KBA recall 16136R, Mercedes is replacing the 70.5 kWh battery in EQA 250+ and EQB 250+ cars built February 2021 – July 2024 (51,729 cars worldwide), because the earlier software fix reduced usable energy and charging performance. electrive reported in October 2026 that broad replacement in Europe starts in Q4 2026. DVSA's UK file (October 2026) lists only the software recall, so ask Mercedes-Benz UK what applies to a particular car.
What is the Mercedes EQA battery warranty in the UK?
Mercedes-Benz UK covers the EQA's high-voltage battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles, and replaces it if capacity falls below 70% of the rated capacity.
How much does a Mercedes EQA battery degrade?
AVILOO's 2026 data from 18,953 EQA tests has a median battery health of 95.0% at 100,000 km, with the central 99% of cars between 89.2% and 97.8%. That is one of the higher medians in our dataset.
Can I check an EQA battery with an OBD app?
Owners report that third-party OBD apps cannot read the EQA's battery data. Ask a Mercedes workshop for a printed battery health report or book an independent battery test.
