BYD Atto 3 battery health check: capacity, warranty and UK test results
Published · Last updated · based on 25 sourced Atto 3 data points and 33 sources
EV Database lists UK Atto 3 orders from March 2023, so the first cars are now coming onto the used market. It has an LFP "Blade" battery. This guide covers which battery a car has, what BYD's warranty really covers (its own sources disagree on the mileage), how far to trust the car's battery figure, and how a test result compares with the 18 UK dealer test certificates we found.
All figures with method and date: used BYD Atto 3 battery data. Going to a viewing? Make a printable list of questions for the seller. More Chinese-brand EVs: Chinese EVs battery guide.
1. Battery size: 60.48 kWh, or 74.8 kWh on the 2026 Evo
| Version | Usable battery | Nominal | Cells | Available to order (EV Database, UK) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Atto 3 (MY23-24) | 60.5 kWh | 62.0 kWh | LFP, 126 prismatic Blade cells (126s1p), 403 V | March 2023 – April 2025 | EV Database |
| Atto 3 (MY25) | 60.5 kWh | 62.0 kWh | same pack | April 2025 – April 2026 | EV Database |
| Atto 3 Evo (MY26) | 74.8 kWh | 76.0 kWh | LFP, prismatic Blade cells, 400 V system | since April 2026 | EV Database |
EV Database UK listings, checked 2026-11-03. Test certificates print the first pack as "60.48 kWh".
- All the test data on this page is for the 60.48 kWh pack. We have no results yet for the 74.8 kWh Evo, so don't compare an Evo's result with these figures.
- AVILOO also lists 49.92 kWh and 58.56 kWh Atto 3 packs sold in other markets (AVILOO GmbH). For a privately imported car, check which pack it has and whether the UK warranty applies.
2. Check for recalls
When we downloaded DVSA's recall file on 2026-10-31 it listed no recall under the Atto 3 name (DVSA). Most BYD rows in the file are for buses and coaches, and some list only BYD model codes, so this isn't proof that a car is clear. Run the free GOV.UK recall check on the registration (GOV.UK) and ask a BYD dealer to check the VIN for open campaigns and software updates.
3. Check the battery warranty (and which mileage applies)
BYD's sources don't agree on the mileage, so here is what each says:
| BYD source | Battery cover | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Warranty manual (EEA, UK, Switzerland) | 8 years (96 months) or 250,000 km (155,350 miles), whichever comes first, minimum 70% capacity | BYD |
| BYD UK press release, 2026-01-15 | 8 years or 250,000 km, minimum 70% SOH, for existing as well as new BYD cars in the EEA, UK and Switzerland (not cars under mobility-service or special fleet agreements) | BYD UK media centre |
| BYD UK warranty web page (checked 2026-11-03) | "8 years of battery cover (200,000km/125,000 miles)", marked "may depend on model" | BYD UK |
- The manual and the newer press release both say 250,000 km. As the web page still says 200,000 km, ask a BYD dealer or BYD UK to confirm the cover for the car's VIN in writing, especially on a high-mileage car.
- Count the 8 years from the first registration date. EV Database lists UK orders from March 2023, so even the oldest cars on that listing stay inside the 8 years until about 2031 – check the date on the V5C.
- The cover is for capacity falling below 70%. Gradual loss above that isn't covered. If the battery is repaired under warranty, BYD may use a new, reconditioned or remanufactured part, and says the replacement will have at least the capacity the original had before the failure, not "as new" (BYD).
- The manual excludes, among other things, damage from leaving the car with the battery at zero charge, physical damage, flood damage, and opening or servicing the battery anywhere other than a BYD-certified technician. BYD UK's page says the warranty may not be valid if the car wasn't serviced to BYD's schedule (BYD UK). Ask for the BYD service history and look underneath for damage to the battery casing.
- Our battery warranty checker works out the time and mileage left from the registration date.
4. Get a battery reading you can trust
- On the 19 AVILOO certificates that also print the car's own figure (from its battery management system, BMS), the two were within 1.9 points of each other on every car. On the Atto 3 the car's own figure has been a fair guide, unlike on some other EVs.
- Owner readings from OBD apps are a different matter. On one Thai owner thread, a reply explains that the Car Scanner app's SoH for the Atto 3 is a calculated value (ASEAN NOW forum), so treat app screenshots from a seller with care.
- AVILOO lists FLASH-test support for the Atto 3 (AVILOO GmbH). An independent test (AVILOO GmbH) gives a figure you can compare with the table below. UK options and prices: UK battery test comparison. To read the result: certificate guide.
5. Compare the result with other Atto 3s
- The 18 UK dealer certificates (≈7,818–45,242 miles) read 93.9%–96.9%. There was no clear link with mileage in this small sample: the lowest result, 93.9%, was at 15,639 miles, while the highest-mileage car (45,242 miles) had 95.7%.
- Two Australian dealer certificates read 95.1%–95.4% at 39,923–49,050 km, and owners in Germany, India and Thailand have reported 92.0%–96.3% from service reports and apps (n=1 each).
- A UK result clearly below about 93.9% at similar mileage is worth questioning. Get the car tested again or ask BYD to check it.
- As a rule of thumb for all EVs, ADAC expects at least 92% at 50,000 km, 88% at 100,000 km, 84% at 150,000 km, 80% at 200,000 km (ADAC).
- Compare the Atto 3 with other Chinese-brand EVs on the battery degradation chart, or get a quick estimate with the battery health estimator.

6. Battery replacement cost (UK)
We have not found a verifiable, dated UK price for a new Atto 3 battery from BYD, so we don't quote one. Inside 8 years and the warranty mileage, a battery below 70% capacity is covered by BYD (BYD). For a car near the end of its cover, get a written quote from a BYD dealer before you buy. General UK figures are in our EV battery replacement cost guide.

Model averages can't tell you about the car in front of you. An independent battery test (typically a short OBD plug-in test, some remote) gives an SoH figure and often a certificate you can use when negotiating.
- AVILOO – Independent OBD-based battery test (FLASH / Premium) with certificate; available via partners in the UK and EU.
- Generational – UK OBD plug-in test with certificate (SoH, range, remaining warranty, cell balance); sold through dealers and independent mobile testers.
- Moba – Postal OBD kit: you run the test yourself and post the box back for a digital battery certificate (Europe – check vehicle support and delivery country).

FAQ
What size is the BYD Atto 3 battery?
UK Atto 3s sold from 2023 to April 2026 have a 60.48 kWh LFP "Blade" battery: EV Database lists 62.0 kWh nominal and 60.5 kWh usable, made of 126 prismatic cells. The Atto 3 Evo sold since April 2026 has a bigger pack, 76.0 kWh nominal and 74.8 kWh usable, also LFP. AVILOO also lists 49.92 kWh and 58.56 kWh Atto 3 packs sold in other markets, so check an imported car.
What is the BYD Atto 3 battery warranty in the UK?
BYD's warranty manual for the EEA, UK and Switzerland covers the power battery for 96 months (8 years) or 250,000 km (155,350 miles), whichever comes first, with at least 70% of capacity retained. BYD UK announced in January 2026 that the 250,000 km term also applies to existing cars. BYD UK's warranty web page still showed 200,000 km (125,000 miles) when we checked on 3 November 2026, so ask BYD to confirm the cover for the car's VIN in writing.
How much does a BYD Atto 3 battery degrade?
There is no large study for the Atto 3 yet. The 18 UK dealer AVILOO certificates we found read 93.9%–96.9% at 7,818–45,242 miles; the highest-mileage car (45,242 miles) had 95.7%. These are single cars, not an average.
Is there a BYD Atto 3 recall in the UK?
When we downloaded DVSA's recall file on 31 October 2026, it listed no recall under the Atto 3 name. Some BYD entries list only model codes, and the file can lag behind new campaigns, so run the free GOV.UK recall check on the registration and ask a BYD dealer to check the VIN.
How much does a BYD Atto 3 battery replacement cost in the UK?
We have not found a verifiable, dated UK price for a new Atto 3 battery from BYD, so we do not quote one. Inside 8 years and the warranty mileage, a battery below 70% capacity is BYD's responsibility. For an older car, get a written quote from a BYD dealer before you buy.
