How to check a used GWM Ora 03 / Funky Cat battery: size, warranty and health (UK)
Published · Last updated · based on 16 sourced Ora 03 data points and 22 sources
The GWM Ora 03 (sold first as the ORA Funky Cat) is a small hatchback with either a 47.8 kWh LFP or a 63.1 kWh NMC battery. On the 11 UK dealer AVILOO certificates we found, all for the LFP car, results were 91.0%–92.7%. On a used Ora 03 the main checks are which battery it has, the charging-cable recall, how much of GWM's 8-year battery warranty is left, and how the car's own battery figure compares with an independent test. This guide goes through each one.
All figures with method and date: used GWM Ora 03 battery data. Going to a viewing? Make a printable list of questions for the seller. LFP or NMC across all models: which used EVs have an LFP battery. More Chinese-brand EVs: Chinese EVs battery guide.
1. Battery size: 47.8 kWh LFP or 63.1 kWh NMC
| UK version (EV Database name) | Usable battery | Nominal | Chemistry | Available to order (UK) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ORA Funky Cat First Edition | 45.4 kWh | 47.8 kWh | LFP | November 2022 – December 2023 | EV Database |
| GWM ORA 03 Pure | 45.4 kWh | 47.8 kWh | LFP | January 2024 – April 2026 | EV Database |
| GWM ORA 03 Pro | 59.3 kWh | 63.1 kWh | NMC | January 2024 – April 2026 | EV Database |
| GWM ORA 03 GT | 59.3 kWh | 63.1 kWh | NMC | January 2025 – April 2026 | EV Database |
EV Database UK listings, checked 2026-11-07. All four are now listed as no longer for sale new. UK test certificates print the nominal size (for example "47.8 kWh").
- Trim names were used differently over the years, so go by the battery size on the advert, invoice or a test certificate, not the badge. If in doubt, ask a GWM retailer to confirm the battery from the VIN.
- LFP and NMC packs age differently, so compare a test result only with cars that have the same battery. Every UK independent result we have is for the 47.8 kWh LFP car. For the 63.1 kWh NMC car we have only one owner's app reading.
- AVILOO lists FLASH-test support for both Ora 03 packs, 47.8 and 63.1 kWh (AVILOO GmbH).
2. Check for recalls (including the charging cable)
When we checked DVSA's recall file (DVSA; Ora rows checked 2026-11-07 against the 31 October and 4 November 2026 downloads, listed under make "GREAT WALL", model "ORA"), it had no high-voltage battery recall for the Ora. It listed two other recalls:
| Recall | What it's about | Remedy | Cars and build dates |
|---|---|---|---|
| R/2023/309 (14/11/2023) | The 3-pin (auxiliary) charging cable can overheat if it is used for long periods with extension leads or poor household sockets. The charge socket also stays live for about 15 seconds after the car is unlocked during AC charging, so unplugging in that window can cause a spark. | The 13 A 3-pin cable is replaced with a 10 A cable, and the charging software is updated | 1,449 cars built 30/07/2022 – 31/12/2023 |
| R/2023/115 (15/04/2023) | A fault in the eCall (emergency call) controller's software | Software update | 1,339 cars built 30/07/2022 – 12/04/2023 |
- On a 2022–2023 car, ask whether R/2023/309 was done, and check that the 3-pin cable with the car is the replacement 10 A cable. Never run any 3-pin cable through an extension lead.
- The recall file can lag behind new campaigns, so it doesn't prove a car is clear. Run the free GOV.UK recall check on the registration (GOV.UK) and ask a GWM retailer to check the VIN for open campaigns and software updates.
3. Check the battery warranty that's left
- Battery: 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, against manufacturing defects. GWM says normal capacity loss is not a defect, provided the measured SoH doesn't fall below 70% before the warranty ends (GWM UK). GWM UK's owner page describes it as an "8 year / 100,000 miles battery and EV drivetrain warranty" (GWM UK).
- Rest of the car: 5 years, unlimited mileage, from first registration or delivery (whichever is earlier). The booklet says the first owner and all later owners during the warranty period get the benefit (GWM UK).
- How long is left: EV Database lists UK orders from November 2022, so even early cars should stay inside the 8 years until about 2030. Check the first-registration date on the V5C and the mileage. Our battery warranty checker does the maths.
- Service history: GWM's schedule is every 18,000 miles or 24 months. The traction battery is inspected at each service, and the battery coolant is changed at no more than 4 years or 48,000 miles (GWM UK). Ask for the service record, and on an older or higher-mileage car check that the coolant change was done.
4. Get a battery reading you can trust
- The car's own figure reads low on the Ora. On all 11 UK AVILOO certificates that also print the car's own (BMS) figure, the car's own reading was lower than the independent result, by 2.5 to 5 points. On several other models the car's own figure reads higher than the independent test instead (compare the car's own figure on other LFP cars).
- So a figure of around 87–90% in the car or app isn't, on its own, a sign of a weak battery. Owners in a German forum thread also argue about how meaningful the app's battery figure is (Bolidenforum.de).
- An independent test (AVILOO GmbH) gives a figure you can compare with the table below. UK options and prices: UK battery test comparison. To read the result: certificate guide.
5. Compare the result with other Ora 03s
- No AVILOO median or other large study has been published for the Ora 03. Every figure below is a single car (n=1).
- The 11 UK dealer AVILOO certificates (all 47.8 kWh LFP; 9,284–47,414 km, ≈5,769–29,462 miles) read 91.0%–92.7%. The lowest-mileage car (5,769 miles) had 92.6% and the highest-mileage car (29,462 miles) had 91.4%, so on these cars higher mileage didn't mean a lower result. That's a small sample, not a promise for every car.
- A UK independent result well below about 91.0% on a 47.8 kWh car at similar mileage is worth questioning. Ask for a second test or a GWM check.
- 5 owner-reported readings from German owner forums (app, car or OBD figures, not independent tests) ranged 88.9%–98.1%, including the only 63.1 kWh NMC car in our data (98.1% at 32,000 km, owner's app figure).
- As a rule of thumb for all EVs, ADAC expects at least 92% at 50,000 km, 88% at 100,000 km, 84% at 150,000 km, 80% at 200,000 km (ADAC).
- Compare the Ora 03 with other small LFP cars on the battery degradation chart, or get a quick estimate with the battery health estimator.

6. Battery replacement cost (UK)
We have not found a verifiable, dated UK price for a new Ora 03 battery, so we don't quote one. Inside 8 years and 100,000 miles, a battery whose measured SoH falls below 70% is covered by GWM (GWM UK). For a car near the end of its cover, get a written quote from a GWM retailer before you buy. General UK figures are in our EV battery replacement cost guide.

FAQ
What size battery does a GWM Ora 03 / Funky Cat have?
Two sizes. EV Database lists 47.8 kWh nominal / 45.4 kWh usable with LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cells on the Funky Cat First Edition (2022–2023) and the ORA 03 Pure (2024–2026), and 63.1 kWh nominal / 59.3 kWh usable with NMC cells on the ORA 03 Pro and GT. Trim names changed over the years, so check the battery size on the paperwork or a test certificate rather than the badge.
What is the GWM Ora 03 battery warranty in the UK?
GWM UK covers the traction battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, against manufacturing defects. Normal capacity loss is not a defect as long as the measured state of health (SoH) stays at or above 70% before the warranty ends. The rest of the car has a 5-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, and later owners keep the benefit during the warranty period.
How much does a GWM Ora 03 battery degrade?
There is no large study for the Ora 03. The 11 UK dealer AVILOO certificates we found (all 47.8 kWh LFP cars) read 91.0%–92.7% at 5,769–29,462 miles. On these cars the figure was about the same at 5,769 miles as at 29,462 miles. They are single cars (n=1 each), not an average.
Is there a battery recall on the GWM Ora 03?
When we checked DVSA's recall file (downloads of 31 October and 4 November 2026), it listed no high-voltage battery recall for the Ora. It listed two other recalls: R/2023/309, where the 3-pin charging cable is replaced with a 10 A cable and the charging software updated (1,449 cars built July 2022 to December 2023), and R/2023/115, an eCall software fix (1,339 cars). Run the free GOV.UK recall check on the registration as well.
Can I trust the Ora 03's own battery-health figure?
Treat it with care. On all 11 UK AVILOO certificates that also print the car's own figure, the car's figure was lower than the independent test, by 2.5 to 5 points. A low reading in the car or app is therefore not proof of a weak battery, and a high one shouldn't be taken on trust either. An independent test gives a figure you can compare with other cars.
How much does a GWM Ora 03 battery replacement cost in the UK?
We have not found a verifiable, dated UK price for a new Ora 03 battery, so we do not quote one. Inside 8 years and 100,000 miles, a battery whose measured SoH falls below 70% is covered by GWM. For a car near the end of its cover, ask a GWM retailer for a written quote before you buy.
