How to check a used Jaguar I-Pace battery: recalls, the 90% charge limit, warranty and test results (UK)
Published · Last updated · based on 11 sourced I-Pace data points and 22 sources
On the tests we found, I-Pace batteries hold their capacity well: 10 UK dealer certificates read 92.2%–97.1%. The bigger question on a used I-Pace is the battery recalls. Most 2018–2021 cars are covered by a March 2026 recall whose interim fix limits charging to 90%, and the earliest cars are now reaching the end of the 8-year battery warranty. This guide shows how to check the recall status, the warranty and the battery itself.

1. The battery: one pack for every UK I-Pace
| Version | Usable battery | Nominal | Cells | Available to order (EV Database, UK) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| I-Pace EV400 | 84.7 kWh | 90 kWh | NMC622, 432 pouch cells (108s4p), 400 V | March 2018 – July 2020 | EV Database |
| I-Pace EV400 | 84.7 kWh | 90 kWh | same pack | July 2020 – January 2023 | EV Database |
| I-Pace EV400 | 84.7 kWh | 90 kWh | same pack | January 2023 – June 2025 | EV Database |
EV Database UK listings, checked 2026-11-03. Jaguar UK's technical data also gives 90 kWh, 84.7 kWh usable (Jaguar UK).
So the battery size doesn't tell cars apart. What matters is the build date, because the recalls below are defined by it. It's on the V5C (first registration) and Jaguar can confirm it from the VIN.
2. Check the battery recalls first
DVSA's recall file (DVSA) lists these I-Pace battery recalls:
| Recall | Launched | Cars (UK) | Built | Problem | Remedy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| R/2026/052 Jaguar H570, H571, H572 | 06/03/2026 | 16,291 | 23/06/2017 – 18/06/2021 | Battery fire or smoke risk remains for packs made up to the end of model year 2021, even after the earlier protective software | Interim: software limits the maximum charge to 90% while a permanent remedy is developed |
| R/2023/154 | 19/06/2023 | 26,137 | 28/08/2017 – 06/06/2023 | Risk of battery pack thermal overload (fire or smoke) | Battery control module (BECM) software that monitors the pack |
| R/2023/297 | 31/10/2023 | 374 | 28/08/2017 – 06/06/2023 | R/2023/154 done incorrectly, so the right software wasn't installed | BECM software update |
| R/2024/120 | 15/04/2024 | 264 | 16/02/2018 – 26/09/2019 | Packs with cells made on or before 31 May 2018: elevated thermal overload risk | New battery pack, or Jaguar buys the car back |
| R/2023/065 | 12/04/2023 | 9 | 24/04/2018 – 23/01/2020 | Degraded battery condition, elevated fire risk | Battery replaced |
| R/2024/034 | 20/03/2024 | 9 | 08/06/2018 – 02/05/2024 | Loose busbar fixings between battery modules | Fixings inspected, parts replaced as needed |
From DVSA's RecallsFile.csv (downloaded 2026-10-31). DVSA also lists R/2023/227 (high-voltage coolant heater, 15 cars), which affects windscreen demisting, not the battery.
At a viewing:
- Run the free GOV.UK recall check on the registration (GOV.UK), then ask a Jaguar retailer to check the VIN for open campaigns, including H570–H572.
- Look at the charge limit. A car built up to mid-2021 that only charges to 90% has probably had the interim R/2026/052 software. Range on a full charge will be lower than the brochure figure, so test the range you actually need.
- As of the DVSA file we checked, the permanent remedy for R/2026/052 was still "being developed". Ask the seller what Jaguar has told them since, and get it in writing if it affects the price.
- Ask for the invoices or service record for every battery recall done. A car that had its pack replaced under R/2023/065 or R/2024/120 should have the paperwork.
3. Check the battery warranty
Jaguar UK: the 90 kWh battery warranty is limited to 8 years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km), whichever comes first. It applies to manufacturing defects or if a certified Jaguar Retailer measures the battery below 70% State of Health. Confirm the start date and cover for the specific car with Jaguar. (Jaguar UK, checked 2026-11-03)
- Count the 8 years from the first registration date. The first UK cars were registered in 2018, so they reach 8 years in 2026, and a high-mileage car can pass 100,000 miles sooner.
- Only a certified Jaguar retailer's measurement counts for the 70% claim, so ask for a Jaguar battery report if a car is close to the limit.
- Our battery warranty checker works out the time and mileage left from the registration date.
4. Get a battery reading you can trust
- On all 10 UK AVILOO certificates we found, the I-Pace's own battery figure (BMS) was lower than AVILOO's independent result, by 0.8 to 4.2 points. So a low-looking figure in the car isn't necessarily bad news. Get it measured independently before you negotiate.
- A good figure doesn't rule out a fault either. On one UK certificate (a 14,526-mile car) AVILOO gave no SoH at all and flagged a potential safety hazard needing immediate inspection, while the car itself showed 95% (Car360). If a test flags a problem, have Jaguar inspect the car before you buy.
- An AVILOO battery test (AVILOO GmbH) measures the battery independently. UK options and prices are on our UK battery test comparison, and our certificate guide explains how to read the result.
5. Compare the result with other I-Paces
- The 10 UK dealer certificates (16,166–75,449 km, ≈10,045–46,882 miles) read 92.2%–97.1%. A result clearly below that at similar mileage is worth questioning.
- For high mileage: one 2018 car tested by Bjørn Nyland had 90.8% after about 192,000 km (≈119,303 mi) and 7 years (Bjørn Nyland / TB Test Results). DEKRA reported 95–97% on six I-Pace taxis from a Munich fleet at 180,000–260,000 km (DEKRA); individual results aren't published, so we don't plot them.
- No large study covers the I-Pace. For a rough comparison, AVILOO's median at 100,000 km is 93.1% for the Audi e-tron / Q8 e-tron and 95.0% for the Mercedes-Benz EQA (AVILOO GmbH).
- As a rule of thumb for all EVs, ADAC expects at least 92% at 50,000 km, 88% at 100,000 km, 84% at 150,000 km, 80% at 200,000 km (ADAC).
- Compare the I-Pace with similar SUVs on the battery degradation chart, or get a quick estimate with the battery health estimator.

6. Battery replacement cost (UK)
We have not found a verifiable, dated UK price for a new I-Pace battery, so we don't quote one. Inside 8 years and 100,000 miles a battery below 70% (measured by a Jaguar retailer) is covered by Jaguar UK (Jaguar UK), and recall work, including the battery replacements under R/2023/065 and R/2024/120, is done free. For an out-of-warranty car, get a written quote before you buy. General UK figures are in our EV battery replacement cost guide.

Model averages can't tell you about the car in front of you. An independent battery test (typically a short OBD plug-in test, some remote) gives an SoH figure and often a certificate you can use when negotiating.
- AVILOO – Independent OBD-based battery test (FLASH / Premium) with certificate; available via partners in the UK and EU.
- Generational – UK OBD plug-in test with certificate (SoH, range, remaining warranty, cell balance); sold through dealers and independent mobile testers.
- Moba – Postal OBD kit: you run the test yourself and post the box back for a digital battery certificate (Europe – check vehicle support and delivery country).

FAQ
Is there a Jaguar I-Pace battery recall in the UK?
Yes, several. The widest is R/2026/052 (March 2026, Jaguar codes H570, H571 and H572): 16,291 I-Paces built 23 June 2017 – 18 June 2021, where DVSA says a risk of battery fire or smoke remains for packs made up to the end of model year 2021. The interim remedy is software that limits charging to 90% while a permanent remedy is developed. Earlier recalls R/2023/154 and R/2023/297 added battery monitoring software, and R/2023/065 and R/2024/120 replaced the battery (or bought the car back) on a few hundred cars. Run the GOV.UK recall check on the registration and confirm with a Jaguar retailer by VIN.
Why does a used I-Pace only charge to 90%?
Most likely because the interim fix for recall R/2026/052 has been done: DVSA says the software restricts the maximum state of charge to 90% while a permanent remedy is developed. That means less range on a full charge. Ask the seller for the recall paperwork and what Jaguar has said about the permanent remedy.
What is the Jaguar I-Pace battery warranty?
Jaguar UK says the 90 kWh battery warranty is limited to 8 years or 100,000 miles (160,000 km), whichever comes first, and applies to manufacturing defects or if a certified Jaguar retailer measures the battery below 70% state of health. The first 2018 cars reach 8 years in 2026, so check the first registration date.
How much does an I-Pace battery degrade?
There is no large study for the I-Pace. The 10 UK dealer AVILOO certificates we found read 92.2%–97.1% at 10,045–46,882 miles. One 2018 car tested by Bjørn Nyland kept 90.8% after about 192,000 km, and DEKRA reported 95–97% on six Munich taxis at 180,000–260,000 km. These are single cars, not an average.
How much is an I-Pace battery replacement in the UK?
We have not found a verifiable, dated UK price for a replacement I-Pace battery, so we do not quote one. Inside 8 years and 100,000 miles a battery below 70% is covered by Jaguar, and recall work is free.
