EV battery degradation chart: state of health vs mileage, by model

Published · Last updated · 36 models · 396 sourced data points with a mileage

Pick up to five used EVs and see every published battery state-of-health (SoH) figure we have for them, plotted by mileage: large test datasets, dealer and fleet data, single-car tests and owner readings. Nothing is smoothed or modelled; each mark is a figure from a named source with a date.

Not a prediction for one car. The chart shows what has been published for each model. Cars of the same model and mileage vary, so only a battery test of the car you are buying tells you its condition. For a single estimate at a given mileage, use the battery health estimator.

Colours = models; shape = type of source. Large marks = multi-car figures (medians or averages), small marks = single cars (n=1). Vertical lines = the published spread (for AVILOO, the band covering 99% of tested cars). Lines join published points from the same dataset; they are not a fitted curve. Drawn by us from the cited figures.

What's on the chart

How to read it fairly

Data: 396 points (109 multi-car, 287 single-car) from 174 sources, every one listed with its date in the full source list and downloadable as open data. Side-by-side figures: compare all 36 models. Warranty cover by model: battery warranty checker.

We are not paid by these test providers. How we make money.

Model averages can't tell you about the car in front of you. An independent battery test (typically a short OBD plug-in test, some remote) gives an SoH figure and often a certificate you can use when negotiating.

FAQ

How do I read this battery degradation chart?

Each mark is one published figure, placed by mileage (across) and battery state of health (up). Circles are AVILOO tests, squares are other tests, datasets or manufacturer figures, and triangles are single cars reported by owners or in listings. Large marks are multi-car figures such as medians or averages; lines join the published points of the same dataset. Click a mark to see its source and date.

Why do single cars differ so much from the dataset medians?

A single car is one battery measured once, often with the car's own battery management system or an OBD app, while a median summarises hundreds or thousands of tests. AVILOO found that cars of the same model at similar mileage can differ by up to 13.5 percentage points, so a single reading above or below the line is normal and says little about the model as a whole.

Can I compare models with this chart?

Yes, up to five at a time, but compare like with like. Different sources measure state of health in different ways, so the clearest comparison is between multi-car figures from the same dataset, for example AVILOO's medians at 50,000, 100,000 and 150,000 km. The compare page lists those side by side.

Can I use the chart or the data?

Yes. The underlying data points are published as open data under CC BY 4.0 on our open data page; please credit Used EV Battery Health and the original source of each figure.
