Polestar 2 battery degradation at 100,000 miles: what the data shows (UK)
Published · Last updated · based on 13 sourced Polestar 2 data points and 19 sources
The Polestar 2 has been sold in the UK since 2020, so high-mileage cars are now on the used market. This guide shows what the published battery data says at high mileage, what it can't tell you yet about 100,000 miles, what happens to the warranty, and how to check the car you're looking at.

The short answer
- Up to about 93,000 miles there is a lot of data. AVILOO's median for the Polestar 2 was 95.0% at 50,000 km, 93.4% at 100,000 km and 92.5% at 150,000 km (AVILOO GmbH). Between 100,000 and 150,000 km the median fell by 0.9 points.
- At 150,000 km the Polestar 2 ranked 7 of 20 models in AVILOO's table, between Ford Mustang Mach-E (92.5%) and Cupra Born (91.9%) (AVILOO GmbH). See it next to other models on the battery degradation chart.
- At 100,000 miles itself we have no published figure yet. 100,000 miles is about 160,934 km. The highest-mileage Polestar 2 result we have found is 91.7% at 117,697 km (≈73,134 mi), a single car (AAA Auto). We don't extend the trend line beyond the data.
- ADAC's rule of thumb for all EVs is at least 84% at 150,000 km and 80% at 200,000 km (ADAC). A Polestar 2 near 100,000 miles reading well below that range deserves questions.

Medians and averages describe many cars; single-car rows are examples only. 9,954 AVILOO battery tests in Sweden 2022–2026; average SoH of cars with more than 100,000 km (10,000 Swedish mil). Only models with a sufficient number of tests (top 20 published). Cross-sectional, not the same cars over time. Riddermarks: 99.6% of tested cars above 90% SoH. Mileage is the average of tested cars.
Which battery does the car have?
64 kWh and 78 kWh (2020–2023, NMC; Long Range cells from CATL or LG Chem), then 69/70 kWh and 82 kWh (2024 on, NMC). NMC for all versions (64/78 kWh 2020–2023; 70/82 kWh 2024–2025). (EV Database)
- On a 2020–2023 Long Range car the cells came from CATL or LG Chem. In Carla's Swedish data, cars above 100,000 km averaged 94.4% with CATL cells and 93.5% with LG Chem cells (Carla AB, 2026-07-08). The gap is under one point, and the sample sizes weren't published, so the supplier is a minor factor next to the car's own test result.
- Large datasets group the 64/78 kWh cars; little independent data yet for the 2024-on 69/70/82 kWh packs (one single-car Moba certificate and one Polestar certificate).
The warranty runs out at 100,000 miles
Polestar UK: battery 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first; if SoH drops below 70% of original capacity within the first 8 years the battery is repaired or replaced at no cost. Vehicle warranty 3 years / 60,000 miles. (Polestar UK, checked 2026-10-29)
- So the battery warranty ends at whichever comes first: 8 years from first registration or 100,000 miles. DVSA's recall file lists UK Polestar 2s built from September 2019 (DVSA), so even the oldest cars are inside the 8-year limit until about late 2027; on a high-mileage car it's the 100,000-mile limit that ends the cover. Work out what's left with the battery warranty checker (8 years / 100,000 miles, below 70%).
- Polestar 2s sold through Polestar's own pre-owned programme get a 112-point inspection, an extra battery state-of-health test with the results before purchase, and a 24-month pre-owned warranty (Polestar UK, checked 2026-10-29). The certificate states usable battery capacity as a percentage, and the car keeps whatever remains of the 8-year / 100,000-mile battery warranty (Charged EVs, 2025-06-11).
Battery-related recalls
When we downloaded DVSA's recall file on 2026-10-28, the Polestar 2 recalls linked to the high-voltage battery were both software fixes for the battery energy control module (BECM) on early cars (DVSA):
- R/2020/279 (1 October 2020): an internal reset in the BECM could open the high-voltage connectors while driving. Software upgrade; 929 UK cars built between 25 December 2019 and 9 September 2020.
- R/2021/061 (24 February 2021): high-voltage contactors in the BECM could open while driving, with a loss of drive. Software upgrade; 2,381 UK cars built between 9 December 2019 and 4 February 2021.
Neither involved replacing battery cells or modules, and the file listed no Polestar 2 recall of that kind. Run the free GOV.UK recall check on the registration to see whether anything is outstanding (GOV.UK).
How to check a high-mileage Polestar 2
- Polestar workshops can issue an official battery state-of-health certificate (cyclable capacity at 25°C vs nominal). (Polestar / Brandt Personbilar AB Skövde)
- Ask for an independent battery test. AVILOO lists FLASH-test support for the Polestar 2 64–82 kWh packs shown above, so a dealer certificate or a mobile tester can give an SoH figure you can compare with the results on this page. (AVILOO GmbH)
- On the AVILOO certificates we found, the car's own figure and AVILOO's were within about 3 points: 95.5% AVILOO at 52,861 km, 97.3% AVILOO at 67,143 km, 93.8% AVILOO at 68,017 km, 91.7% AVILOO at 117,697 km (Car360, [2], [3], AAA Auto); the car's own reading is in each row's note above. AVILOO calculates SoH with its own method rather than copying the car's figure (AVILOO GmbH).
- Compare the result with the AVILOO band for the nearest mileage: 85.9%–96.3% at 150,000 km. A car near the bottom of that band, or below ADAC's rule of thumb, is worth a lower offer or a second test.
- Ask for the service history and confirm the recalls above were done.

Model averages can't tell you about the car in front of you. An independent battery test (typically a short OBD plug-in test, some remote) gives an SoH figure and often a certificate you can use when negotiating.
- AVILOO – Independent OBD-based battery test (FLASH / Premium) with certificate; available via partners in the UK and EU.
- Generational – UK OBD plug-in test with certificate (SoH, range, remaining warranty, cell balance); sold through dealers and independent mobile testers.
- Moba – Postal OBD kit: you run the test yourself and post the box back for a digital battery certificate (Europe – check vehicle support and delivery country).
Prices change – check the provider's site. Provider names are used for identification only.

FAQ
How much battery health does a Polestar 2 lose by 100,000 miles?
No large dataset we know of has published Polestar 2 figures at 100,000 miles (about 161,000 km) yet. The nearest is AVILOO's 2026 report: from 17,155 Polestar 2 tests, the median battery health was 93.4% at 100,000 km (about 62,000 miles) and 92.5% at 150,000 km (about 93,000 miles), with the central 99% of cars at 150,000 km between 85.9% and 96.3%.
Is a Polestar 2 battery still under warranty at 100,000 miles?
No. Polestar UK covers the battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, and repairs or replaces it if the state of health falls below 70% of the original capacity within that time. A car at or near 100,000 miles has little or no battery warranty left, so an independent battery test matters more.
Which Polestar 2 battery lasts better, CATL or LG Chem?
In Carla's 2026 analysis of Swedish AVILOO tests on cars above 100,000 km, 78 kWh Polestar 2s with CATL cells averaged 94.4% and those with LG Chem cells 93.5%. That gap is small, and Carla did not publish how many cars were in each group.
How do I check the battery of a used Polestar 2?
Ask for a battery state-of-health certificate: Polestar UK says every pre-owned Polestar 2 sold through its programme gets a battery SoH test, shown before you buy. For a car sold elsewhere, ask a Polestar service point for a certificate or pay for an independent test such as AVILOO, then compare the figure with the data for the car's mileage.
