How to check a used Kia EV6 battery before you buy (UK)
Published · Last updated · based on 15 sourced EV6 data points and 27 sources
The Kia EV6 has some of the best battery results in published dealer data. This guide covers how to tell which of the four batteries a car has, the two UK recalls that matter for the battery and charging, the Kia warranty, why the car's own "100%" isn't proof, and how to compare a test result with real tested cars.
All figures with method and date: used Kia EV6 battery data. Going to a viewing? Make a printable list of questions for the seller.
1. Identify the battery
| Version | Usable battery (estimate) | Nominal | Chemistry | Available to order (EV Database) | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Range 2WD | 54.0 kWh | 58.0 kWh | NMC, 288 cells | Oct 2021 – Nov 2024 (European listing) | EV Database |
| Long Range 2WD | 74.0 kWh | 77.4 kWh | NMC, 384 cells | UK, Feb 2022 – Aug 2024 | EV Database |
| Long Range AWD | 74.0 kWh | 77.4 kWh | NMC, 384 cells | UK, Jan 2022 – Aug 2024 | EV Database |
| GT (first version) | 74.0 kWh | 77.4 kWh | NMC, 384 cells | UK, Apr 2022 – Aug 2024 | EV Database |
| Standard Range RWD (facelift) | 60.0 kWh | 63.0 kWh | NMC, 288 cells | UK, May 2025 – Jan 2026 | EV Database |
| RWD / AWD (facelift) | 80.0 kWh | 84.0 kWh | NMC, 384 cells | UK, since Sep 2024 (EV Database) | EV Database |
| GT (facelift) | 80.0 kWh | 84.0 kWh | NMC, 384 cells | UK, since Jun 2025 | EV Database |
EV Database listings, checked 2026-10-31. We found no UK listing for the 58 kWh car, so its dates are from the European listing.
Almost all data on used EV6s is for the 77.4 kWh Long Range battery. We have only one test of an 84 kWh car and none of the 58 or 63 kWh packs, so compare a smaller-battery car with care.
2. Check the recalls
DVSA's recall file, downloaded 2026-10-30, lists these EV6 recalls that touch the battery or charging (DVSA):
- R/2026/309 (25 August 2026): some high-voltage battery cells from limited production periods may have a misaligned electrode, which over time may cause an internal short circuit and a fire risk. Kia UK uses the battery's state of health to choose the repair: above 90% it replaces the faulty module, at 90% or lower it replaces the whole battery pack. The file lists 1 UK vehicle, built between 16 September 2021 and 19 January 2024.
- R/2024/197 (20 May 2024): the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) may be damaged over time and stop charging the 12V battery, which can then run down while driving with a gradual loss of power. The fix is an ICCU software update, or a new ICCU and fuse if fault code P1A9096 is stored. It covers EV6s built 20 April 2021 to 28 February 2024; the file's rows add up to 16,611 vehicles.
The file also lists three recalls that don't involve the battery (driveshaft, gear selector software, instrument cluster). Run the free GOV.UK recall check on the registration (GOV.UK) and ask the seller for the dealer invoice showing that open recalls were done.
3. Check the battery warranty
Kia UK: 70% minimum capacity for 84 months / 100,000 miles (registered up to 31/12/2023) or 96 months / 100,000 miles (registered from 01/01/2024). For 2026 model year cars Kia also lists 80% for 60 months / 60,000 miles. (Kia UK, checked 2026-10-31)
- The warranty transfers to each new owner as long as it hasn't expired. Kia's page says the battery is repaired where possible, otherwise replaced with a new or remanufactured one.
- Kia's page has separate terms for taxi and private hire use, so ask how the car was used.
- Our battery warranty checker works out the time and mileage left from the registration date.
4. Get a battery reading you can trust
On all 9 dealer AVILOO certificates for the EV6 in our data, the car's own battery figure (from its battery management system, BMS) was printed as 100%, while AVILOO's independent test measured 96.3%–99.5%. That means a "100%" on a dealer printout or a basic OBD app doesn't tell you much on this car.
- Ask for an independent test such as an AVILOO battery test (AVILOO GmbH). UK options and prices are on our UK battery test comparison.
- Read any certificate the seller gives you with our certificate guide, and check the mileage and date on it match the car.
- Range shown on the dash is not battery health. Recurrent's US connected-car data puts EV6 range at about 97% after 3 years and 97% after 5 years compared with new (Recurrent), but that is range, not SoH, and depends on weather and driving.
5. Compare the result with other EV6s
| Data set | Cars | Mileage | SoH | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Swedish dealer AVILOO quick tests, 77.4 kWh | 242 | average 79,517 km | 96.4% average; all above 90% | Ny Teknik / Riddermarks Bil (2026-06-18) |
| Swedish retailer AVILOO tests, cars over 100,000 km | not published | over 100,000 km | 96.0% average | Carla AB (2026-07-08) |
| UK dealer AVILOO certificates, 77.4 kWh | 7 (one each) | 30,223–69,812 km | 96.7%–98.6% range | single certificates |
- In this data a healthy 77.4 kWh EV6 sits at about 96–98% up to 100,000 km. A result clearly below that for the mileage is worth questioning, and below 90% is unusual: none of the 242 Riddermarks cars was.
- As a rule of thumb for all EVs, ADAC expects at least 92% at 50,000 km, 88% at 100,000 km, 84% at 150,000 km, 80% at 200,000 km (ADAC).
- Compare with the IONIQ 5, which uses the same E-GMP platform, on the battery degradation chart, or get a quick estimate with the battery health estimator.

Model averages can't tell you about the car in front of you. An independent battery test (typically a short OBD plug-in test, some remote) gives an SoH figure and often a certificate you can use when negotiating.
- AVILOO – Independent OBD-based battery test (FLASH / Premium) with certificate; available via partners in the UK and EU.
- Generational – UK OBD plug-in test with certificate (SoH, range, remaining warranty, cell balance); sold through dealers and independent mobile testers.
- Moba – Postal OBD kit: you run the test yourself and post the box back for a digital battery certificate (Europe – check vehicle support and delivery country).
Prices change – check the provider's site. Provider names are used for identification only. Compare all UK options and prices: EV battery health check UK.

FAQ
Which battery does my used Kia EV6 have?
EV Database lists four pack sizes, all NMC. Cars ordered up to August 2024 have a 58 kWh Standard Range pack (54 kWh usable) or a 77.4 kWh Long Range pack (74 kWh usable, also in the GT). The facelift sold from September 2024 has an 84 kWh pack (80 kWh usable), and a 63 kWh Standard Range (60 kWh usable) was listed in the UK from May 2025 to January 2026. The usable figures are EV Database estimates. Check the V5C, the advert or the Kia service record.
What is a good battery health (SoH) for a used Kia EV6?
Swedish dealer data is the best guide: Riddermarks tested 242 EV6 77.4 kWh cars at an average of 79,517 km and found an average of 96.4%, with every car above 90%. Carla's average for EV6s with more than 100,000 km was 96.0%. On 7 UK dealer AVILOO certificates for the 77.4 kWh car (30,223–69,812 km) we have 96.7%–98.6%. A car well below about 95% at normal mileage deserves questions and an independent test.
Is the Kia EV6 battery still under warranty in the UK?
Kia UK covers the battery to 70% of its original capacity for 7 years (84 months) / 100,000 miles on cars registered up to 31 December 2023, and 8 years (96 months) / 100,000 miles on cars registered from 1 January 2024. For 2026 model year cars Kia also lists 80% for 60 months / 60,000. The warranty transfers to each new owner while it lasts. Use the registration date to work out how much is left.
Are there battery recalls on the Kia EV6 in the UK?
DVSA's recall file (downloaded 2026-10-30) lists R/2026/309 for possible misaligned electrodes in battery cells from limited production periods, which over time may cause an internal short circuit and a fire risk. It lists 1 UK vehicle, built between September 2021 and January 2024. It also lists R/2024/197 for the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU), which can stop charging the 12V battery, for EV6s built April 2021 to February 2024. Run the free GOV.UK recall check on the registration and ask for proof the work was done.
Can I trust the battery health the EV6 shows itself?
Be careful. On all 9 dealer AVILOO certificates for the EV6 in our data the car's own (BMS) figure is printed as 100%, while AVILOO measured 96.3%–99.5%. A "100%" from the car or a basic OBD app tells you little, so ask for an independent test.
